Some of my dads co-workers are currently completing a project in the state of Kansas, they've taken their families because they'll be there for a while. Well, that was until the racism. One of my dads co-workers has a Singaporean wife and they flat out refused to serve her in a restaurant. They're getting abuse at their home, so much so that they're getting the police involved. This isn't a one off event either, another family are of mixed race and are getting horrible verbal abuse pretty much every time they leave their home.

It's getting so bad that they're thinking of leaving. What in the actual ****? Did they step out their plane through some sort of time-warp?

Would I be right in assuming Kansas is what we would describe in Britain as "a ****hole"?

    • No, it's not representative, but there certainly are people who match the caricature pretty closely. It's not fiction.

Yes, and there really are extremely flaky/hateful dems. Some of them really would like to destroy the Christian faith, for example, and would like to use the government to that end--and by "some of them," I mean, "a very small percentage." For Republicans to think that is a representative sample of Dems would be absurd, no? And yet some do--just like, to hear Dinner tell it, the average GOP member is stockpiling ammo in his basement and plans his life around the imminent Rapture.

Who are these people who want to ban Christianity?

Also, while it's rare for anyone to take homophobia to the extreme Fred Phelps does, it's still a widespread phenomenon and Republican lawmakers still try pass laws that discriminate against homosexuals....

              Nope.

They were a gay couple who got married in Massachusetts but lived in Alabama. The anti-gay laws in Alabama created tragic agony for one of the two partners, when the other one died.

I'm not arguing for any such thing. The realities of abortion before the Roe V Wade ruling are quite well documented. And AFAIK, I have never written a single piece of the subject. You've presented no evidence to support your notion that they are "myths". I have no argument... other than "you are wrong".

And you are BK-lite because you are a fundamentalist idiot. Though, you might be worse because you like to pretend that you're not.

Either way, I think you are a scumbag and an idiot.

                At least for now.

Don't take it personally though. I don't find it necessary to be diametrically opposed to you. When you feel like believing in things that are consistent with what is factually correct, I will welcome you back to reality with open arms.

I was thinking of the FFRF, American Atheists, and similar organizations. They don't try to "ban" it per se--First Amendment--but do what they can to injure it and suppress its influence. For example, I recently read of a case involving the FFRF and some midwestern state (Wisconsin? Don't remember), where they successfully sued to keep priests from receiving untaxed housing allowances in that state. I don't think they did that out of concern for the state's tax revenue; they simply want to smash religion any way they legally can, and many clergy nowadays depend on that allowance. Now, all these groups are a fairly dinky and extreme lot, but that doesn't keep some conservatives I know from drawing comparisons to the French Revolution, and throwing in a reference to that mad contraception feud for good measure. Not helpful.

I don't read a lot of conservative stuff, but I read enough to know there's some diversity in opposition to gay rights. Some really do feel a deep hate for gay sex/gay people. Others just see it as a manifestation of declining sexual ethics in general, and oppose it in a muddle-headed way because it's a symbol of fornication. Still others view it as a sleazy weapon cynically used to paint traditional Christianity as extreme. And then there are the ones who adopt it out of lockstep loyalty to inherited values or their party or society, without even thinking it through. Probably there are others, too. I find none of them convincing. Still, they are not one monolithic group motivated solely by loathing. Demonization is annoying and unprofitable, as well as inaccurate. It mobilizes hotheads on either side, making it difficult for moderates to even survive, let alone work through the difficulties.
